One of the procedures we offer at our office is same day crowns. This procedure is a type of dental crown. Dental crowns are an important part of the dental toolbox. A dental crown is a tooth-shaped cap that your dentist fits over a damaged tooth. Your Meridian cosmetic dentist may do this procedure for a variety of reasons. These can be fixing a cracked tooth or to restore the appearance of a misshapen tooth.
If I need a crown, what do I do?
Getting a crown is not an uncommon procedure. It is a procedure that we offer at our office and one that we have done many times. We will talk to you about the procedure and walk you through the steps. We will also be happy to answer any questions you might have. There are a couple of different options when it comes to getting dental crowns. We know that each situation and each person is different, so we will discuss options and figure out which one works best for your specific situation.
One option is a temporary crown.
What is a temporary crown?
All-resin crowns are a fairly affordable option compared to ceramic or porcelain crowns. Resin does tend to wear down more quickly and can be more likely to fracture. So, resin crowns are usually only used in temporary crowns. Stainless steel crowns are another temporary crown option. These are often used while a permanent crown is being created. They are also often used on children to protect.
Another option is a permanent crown.
What is a permanent crown?
Permanent crowns are made out of all-ceramic or all-porcelain material. These crowns are a great choice if you’re allergic to metal. They are also a great option as they can be matched to the color of your natural teeth which means they can blend together seamlessly in your mouth.
There is also an option that is porcelain fused to metal. These crowns are popular because they can be matched in color with the teeth nagy, and they are also durable and strong. This means they can provide strength for bridges and other dental application. The downside is that this kind of crown can cause more wear and tear on teeth compared to other materials.
Metal crowns are another kind of permanent crown. These are the choice that lasts the longest as they are unlikely to chip or break, and they can withstand chewing and biting better than the other types. The disadvantage of metal crowns is the color. Unlike the other materials, metal crowns are not going to blend well at al with the color of natural teeth. This is why metal crowns are often used for back teeth that can’t be seen as easily.
Our Option: Same Day Crowns
Same day crowns are a great way to get a crown placed. This is a convenient and quality procedure. In the past, the process for getting a dental crown was a long one. The dentist would have to take a mold of the damaged tooth and then send the mold to a lab. After a couple weeks, you could finally get you new crown put in.
These days, we have better options. Using technologies based on computer helped designs, our Meridian cosmetic dentists can reduce the amount of time needed to put in a crown.
At our office, we provide same day crown procedures that involve using a small camera to take a 3-D image of the tooth. Machines then carve a crown from ceramic and are ready to bond to the tooth. From the beginning to the end, the process takes around two hours.
At Millennium Dental, we can print crowns at your appointment using a 3D printer. If you think you could benefit from a dental crown, give us a call to schedule an appointment. Our friendly front desk staff will be happy to help you.
