What Happens When I Get a Dental Bridge?

Getting a bridge is a lot like getting a crown. Our dentists will first examine your mouth. We will make sure that the natural teeth around the gap are strong enough to hold the bridge.

Next, we will use X-rays and impressions to make sure that we create the perfect dental bridge. Once the crowns and bridge are created we will contact you to get them placed. Your dentist will cement the crowns and bridge into place at your final visit. With your new dental bridge, you can enjoy a complete and functional smile again.

Types of Dental Bridges

There are three basic types of dental bridges used to fix multiple missing teeth:

• Traditional bridges – A traditional bridge involves using two teeth to support the bridge. Traditional bridges are the most common type of dental bridge and need routine brushing and flossing to prevent decay.
• Cantilever bridge – We use this bridge when you have adjacent teeth on one side of your missing tooth. We do not recommend this option for molar replacement as the back of the mouth tends to have more force placed upon the teeth when chewing.
• Bonded bridge – A bonded bridge improves the teeth and gums when you have a metal or porcelain framework to support the replacement tooth.
