Randall B. Smith, D.M.D.

Dr. Smith wanted a career that combined interacting with people and working with his hands; dentistry was the ideal fit. He says that taking away pain is an added source of gratification, adding, “Whether the pain is physical due to a toothache, or emotional due to a patient’s unhappiness with their smile, I can relieve it and change their life. It’s the most rewarding part of this job!”

A native of the Idaho Falls area, Dr. Smith attended Ricks College and completed his Bachelor’s Degree at Brigham Young University. He then attended dental school at Oregon Health Sciences University in Portland, Oregon, and graduated with honors in 1995. Upon graduating, Dr. Smith became a partner with Dr. Delmar Gray. “I wanted to come back to my home state,” he says. “I loved being able to travel and see more of the world, but Idaho… it’s home.”

According to Dr. Smith, education is key when it comes to patients. “We need to teach patients the connection between their oral health and the health of the rest of their body,” he says. My ideal patient is focused on prevention instead of putting out fires!” Dr. Smith never recommends any treatment he wouldn’t advise for his own family members and strives to be open, compassionate, and completely honest with his patients.

When not practicing dentistry, Dr. Smith enjoys spending time with his family. He and his wife Lorri have been married for 27 years and have four children. Dr. Smith’s hobbies include skiing, cycling, and especially mountain biking.
