Important Update Regarding Medicare Dental Coverage
We value the trust you place in our team and want to keep you informed about changes that may affect your dental care. Recently, there have been updates to many Medicare dental plans that we feel are important for our patients to be aware of before their next visit.
Many Medicare plans have shifted to what are often referred to as “preventive-only” dental plans. While this sounds comprehensive, these plans frequently offer very limited coverage. In many cases, they may no longer include services such as dental X-rays, problem-focused exams, or routine cleanings for patients with a history of periodontal (gum) disease. Even patients who pay monthly premiums may find that some recommended services now involve out-of-pocket costs.
These changes are not a reflection of the care you receive here, nor are they unique to one specific plan. Coverage can vary widely depending on the carrier, the type of plan, and the premium selected. Benefits are ultimately determined by the insurance provider and are never guaranteed until claims are processed.
What has not changed is our commitment to your health. Our standard of care remains the same, regardless of how insurance plans evolve. Oral health is closely connected to overall health, and it is our responsibility to recommend the care that is clinically appropriate for you, based on your individual needs, not insurance limitations. For this reason, we continue to encourage patients to follow their recommended treatment and preventive visit schedules.
For patients who find that their dental coverage is limited or who no longer have dental insurance, we do offer an in-office dental savings program. Many patients discover that the enrollment fee is often less than what they pay in monthly premiums and copays, and it allows greater flexibility without plan exclusions or limitations.
Our team is always happy to review your benefits with you and answer any questions you may have before your appointment. Our goal is to be transparent, supportive, and proactive so there are no surprises and you feel confident moving forward with your care.
