Watch Dr. Gerard On The Miracle In Time Podcast
Dr. Gerard recently sat down with Laura Winters, M.S. CCC-SLP, Speech Language Pathologist, Reiki Master Teacher, and host of the Miracle in Time podcast. They talked about Dr. Gerard’s experience and passion for helping children with cutting-edge therapies. Keep reading to learn more about their enlightening conversation.
Miracles in Therapy
As Dr. Gerard explains in the podcast, he gravitated toward treating children because he understands that early intervention promotes healthy development and lifelong success. He became frustrated with the conventional way of thinking about childhood therapies that do not provide the desired outcome in many cases. So, he has dedicated a lot of his time to pursuing specialized training in alternative treatments, studying under renowned dentists and medical professionals to learn how to help more children.
During his pursuit of knowledge, Dr. Gerard came upon the study of myofunctional therapy and, eventually, light therapy for children and infants who experience difficulties using their tongues properly. Tongue placement is crucial for so many important functions, like breathing, eating, swallowing, and speaking. By attending specialized courses, Dr. Gerard has learned all about the brain-body connection that many affected children lack.
Activating the Brain-Body Connection
As Dr. Gerard explains to Laura, light therapy is a key treatment he uses to activate the neurological connection that helps children understand how to place and use their tongues properly. With laser therapy, Dr. Gerard is able to help babies nurse properly, even when they have a tongue or lip tie. Many babies with these problems are unable to latch correctly, which hinders their development because they are not getting sufficient nutrition. After laser therapy, these babies can nurse without a problem, gain weight, and develop properly.
Dr. Gerard and Laura also talk about the ALF expander, an oral appliance for children that expands the soft palate naturally, taking advantage of the brain-body connection. As Dr. Gerard explains how ALF expanders work, he also reveals that they can benefit adults as well.
This podcast episode is full of interesting information about Dr. Gerard’s practice, his education, his goals, and what he wishes to accomplish in the future. His main goal is to help children by making therapy a positive experience that encourages them to succeed.
